The short answer

What belongs in an evidence-led Shopify account brief?

A useful account brief connects the brand, a dated observation, the commercial fit and a concrete next step. In Shoplist, inspect the brand’s stack and profile, add relevant app-market context, and write a discovery question that follows from the evidence. Keep the sources beside the brief so another person can check the reasoning.

A useful conversation

Prepare one discovery question and one relevant demonstration.

On this page

Start with the account you can explain.

Choose one brand from a qualified segment. Open the brand’s Shoplist record, choose Apps to inspect its observed stack and review the storefront. Bring your product’s supported use case and the demonstration that makes it tangible.

App-market research can sharpen the angle. A review theme can guide a discovery question; a listing or pricing change can inform your competitive story. Keep the account’s observed facts and your interpretation in separate fields.

Build the brief before writing the approach.

Write a brief another person can check. Every selected fact should support the commercial fit or the next question.

  1. Record the account and observation.

Save the brand name, domain, Shoplist profile and review date. Note the relevant observed app and the timestamp available in the record. Link the storefront page that shows the merchant use case.

  2. Explain the fit in one sentence.

Connect the merchant workflow to a capability your product supports. For a complementary-app motion, explain the integration. For displacement, name the practical reason to consider switching.

  3. Choose the question and demonstration.

Write one question the research makes relevant, then select the product workflow that can answer it. Keep assumptions in the question rather than presenting them as facts about the merchant.

  4. Prepare the human handoff.

Add an owner, the appropriate business role and the next action. Where contact data is available, use the supported plan and approval flow. Review the brief before drafting any outreach.

Make the research visible in the opening.

For the illustrative replenishment brand, the observation is a subscription-app footprint and a storefront selling repeat-purchase products. The product fit is your supported subscriber-loyalty workflow. A relevant question asks how the merchant rewards repeat deliveries.

A useful first approach can say what you noticed, ask that question and offer the specific demonstration. Keep the claim as narrow as the evidence. The brief should help a teammate understand the account without reopening every tab.

Give the team a brief they can use.

Copy the account brief for each priority prospect. Refresh its evidence before a new approach and update it after the merchant explains their actual workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an automated outreach sequence?

This playbook creates a research brief and a relevant next conversation. Your team reviews the evidence, chooses the contact and decides how to approach the account.

Can I claim that a prospect has a problem described in app reviews?

Use category review research to prepare a question. Attribute a particular problem to the account when the merchant or another account-specific source establishes it. Preserve the source and date in the brief.

How much research belongs in the first message?

Choose the single observation that makes the conversation relevant, ask one useful question and offer the demonstration that fits. Keep the remaining evidence in the brief for the person working the account.
