In 1984, Stanley and Matt Smith were producing a small collection of footwear for nurses out of their family apartment. One of their contacts mentioned that they had a need for shoes to “grip” the slippery floors of a restaurant and from there an idea was born. The Smith family ran with the idea and partnered with a professor of rubber technology to create the first line of slip-resistant footwear
