Held orders appear in a queue where your team can set priority and release them to your live warehouse individually or in bulk.
Some orders shouldn't ship yet: pre-orders, made-to-order items, or products from a supplier who hasn't delivered. Hold Rules places a Shopify fulfillment hold on new orders that match your rules: a product tag, vendor, product type or the start of a SKU. Hold the whole order or only the matching items, so the rest can ship. Each hold shows your reason and note in Shopify.
