# The state of Shopify apps: 93,129 installs and 98,216 listing changes in 28 days

A data-led look at Shopify app installs, uninstalls, launches, pricing changes, and category momentum through September 2, 2026.

Shoplist detected **93,129 Shopify app installs, 99,948 uninstalls, and 98,216 listing changes** in the 28 days ending September 2, 2026. The market did not move in one direction. Merchants changed tools, developers changed their offers, and 1,450 newly launched apps added fresh competition across the major categories.

- **93,129** — install signals detected
- **99,948** — uninstall signals detected
- **98,216** — app-listing changes detected

Those numbers are a useful reminder for Shopify app teams: the App Store is not a static directory. It is a live market with a large amount of replacement, repositioning, and new supply arriving every month.

## What changed in 28 days

The September snapshot covers August 6 through September 2, 2026. Shoplist was tracking 33,409 Shopify App Store records at query time, including 29,040 active apps from 20,639 active developers.

| Signal | Observed count | What it describes |
| ---------------- | -------------: | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| Installs | 93,129 | An app newly detected on a tracked brand |
| Uninstalls | 99,948 | A previously detected app no longer observed |
| Listing changes | 98,216 | Changes to public App Store fields tracked by Shoplist |
| New app launches | 1,450 | Apps launched across the seven primary category groups |
| Pricing changes | 2,836 | Detected pricing edits across 2,209 apps |

The uninstall count was 6,819 higher than the install count during this window. That does **not** mean the Shopify app economy shrank by 6,819 installations. Detection coverage, observation timing, reinstalls, app visibility, and changes to storefront implementation all affect the gross counts. The defensible conclusion is simpler: replacement activity was substantial in both directions.

> **Observed dates are not transaction timestamps**
>
> Shoplist records when public evidence of an install or uninstall is observed. The merchant may
> have made the underlying change earlier, and not every app can be detected publicly.

## Marketing and conversion produced most of the movement

The Marketing + Conversion group accounted for 54,129 detected installs—58.1% of the total—and 56,117 detected uninstalls. It was also the largest group by tracked apps and pricing activity.

| Primary category | Apps tracked | Installs | Uninstalls | New launches | Pricing changes |
| ---------------------- | -----------: | -------: | ---------: | -----------: | --------------: |
| Marketing + Conversion | 7,415 | 54,129 | 56,117 | 311 | 782 |
| Store design | 6,777 | 16,318 | 18,230 | 320 | 672 |
| Store management | 4,480 | 12,921 | 14,474 | 294 | 472 |
| Selling Products | 1,912 | 3,487 | 4,793 | 115 | 261 |
| Sales Channels | 1,276 | 2,074 | 1,107 | 57 | 107 |
| Finding Products | 1,202 | 2,001 | 2,339 | 51 | 84 |
| Orders + Shipping | 5,268 | 1,986 | 2,697 | 302 | 450 |

The categories are not equally easy to interpret. Marketing + Conversion is both broad and crowded, so its raw activity is naturally high. Orders + Shipping had nearly as many launches as Marketing + Conversion but far fewer detected installs during the same window. That gap is a research prompt, not proof that one category is healthier than another: the products, merchant segments, and public detectability differ.

## The apps with the most install activity were not all new entrants

The leading apps by detected 28-day installs included mature products with large installed bases and a smaller product moving unusually fast.

| App | Primary category | Detected installs | Of which reinstalls | Detected store count |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------- | ----------------: | ------------------: | -------------------: |
| Shopify Inbox | Store management | 5,358 | 2,222 | 195,227 |
| Klaviyo: Product Reviews | Marketing + Conversion | 4,773 | 999 | 163,996 |
| Judge.me Product Reviews | Marketing + Conversion | 4,321 | 652 | 238,745 |
| TrustedSite – Trust Badges | Store design | 4,263 | 799 | 4,915 |
| Instafeed – Instagram Feed | Marketing + Conversion | 3,246 | 2,092 | 151,314 |

The reinstallation column changes the reading. Instafeed recorded 3,246 install observations, but 2,092 were classified as reinstalls. For Shopify Inbox, reinstalls represented 2,222 of 5,358. Gross installs capture activity; separating new installs from returns gets closer to acquisition.

TrustedSite is the contrasting case. Its 4,263 detected installs sit against a much smaller detected store count than the other leaders. That makes it worth investigating as a movement signal, while still checking whether a change in implementation or detectability contributed to the jump.

> A leaderboard tells you where to look. The split between new installs, reinstalls, removals, and
> installed base tells you what question to ask next.

## Pricing moved across more than 2,200 apps

Shoplist detected 2,836 pricing changes across 2,209 apps during the window. Marketing + Conversion led with 782 pricing edits, followed by Store design with 672 and Store management with 472.

A pricing change can mean a new plan, a changed price, an edited trial, or a packaging adjustment. It is rarely enough to establish a strategy on its own. But when pricing moves alongside new positioning, feature changes, review activity, or unusual install movement, it can mark a meaningful go-to-market shift.

For competitors, the right response is not to copy a price edit. It is to compare the before-and-after offer, identify which merchant the new packaging favors, and watch whether adoption or review language changes afterward.

## What app teams should take from this month

Three practical conclusions stand out.

First, category-level totals need denominators. A busy category may simply contain more apps or expose more detectable storefront behavior. Compare movement per app, recent direction, and the kind of product before calling a category hot.

Second, install counts are more useful when split. New installs, reinstalls, uninstalls, and active detected brands answer different questions about acquisition, return behavior, churn, and reach.

Third, the market produces more signals than any team can review manually. The advantage comes from defining a competitive set or target segment first, then watching the few changes that could alter a product, positioning, or sales decision.

## Methodology

The analysis uses Shoplist’s read-only State of Shopify Apps reporting snapshot, queried September 3, 2026 and current through September 2. The reporting window begins August 6. Categories are each app’s primary category in the Shoplist public report model. Launches, pricing edits, listing changes, installs, and uninstalls are derived from monitored public ecosystem evidence. They are observational signals, not Shopify billing records or exact merchant event timestamps. Counts may change as coverage and classifications improve.
